From the Pastor’s Desk
In a time when so many have no idea who God is or if God is and what is the relationship between the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; in a time when the whole issue of religion has become so confused and when many people even deny the need for religion; in a time when there seems to be a growing ‘competition’ between many religions I thought I would spend some time this year in looking at God as revealed in the Bible and look at the Bible to see how God is in lives and how the creature can and should respond to God.
So, Who is God? This is a question that has been around as long as humans have been and has been answered in many ways throughout time. The most enduring answer is that which is found in the Bible and is shared by many who are in the ‘Judeo-Christian’ tradition.
So, who is God? The answer begins in the very first words of the Holy Bible: Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
God is the creator of all things; heavens and the earth. In the following two chapters we here how God Spoke and how His Spirit was present as well and because of this we see God, Father, and Holy Spirit, the Trinity three persons yet one God. And herein is the beginning of controversy because this very statement defies logic. In the months ahead I will grant that much of which the Bible says defies our ability to grasp. Let me just say if we could grasp the truth of God we would be no different that the ancients who cast god in their own image. No, the very fact that God defies our ability to grasp Him is a proof that we did not invent God.
God the creator; it is amazing that even among those who say they believe, who practice the Christian faith, who can accept the death and resurrection of Jesus, when it comes to the creation that God recorded in Genesis 1 and 2, there appears to be any number of ways to explain away the simple words, God said and it was, and this in six days.
God the creator, and sustainer; here also is something to consider when we consider God. God not only created all things but if not for God all things would end. It is God who created all things that we need for our body and soul that still sustains us and provides for us.
For the doubters, let me poise a question, how do you understand all that is around us every day, the majesty of the weather, the miracle of life, the awesomeness of flight and all the other ‘inventions’? Now to those who would say it is all an ‘accident’ from a single cell; let me share the story of the scientists who came to God and said: “God we have made tremendous advancements in science and are now able to create humans the same way you did.” God lovingly said, “Show me.” At which point the scientists got down and started pulling dirt together, and God said: “Wait a minute….get your own dirt’. You see at best we can make progress only by using that which God has already created.
God the creator and to Him be thanks and praise.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your gracious love and for sustain us today and all days. In Jesus’ name AMEN
